Artist Statement

I've been a full time artist since 1974, living in Northern New Mexico since 1976. I love working at architectural scale and have installed commissions throughout the country. I have several public pieces in New Mexico.

My recent sculpture explores the human brain. Pondering the brain's complexity can lead viewers to consider what it is to be human and explore questions such as; Are we our brains? Who is the “I” that directs our thoughts? Do brainwaves have a function; are they the mechanism of collective consciousness? Recent interactive pieces are activated by participants' heartbeats and brain waves.

My primary media are clay and glass. I sometimes use wood, steel, ferro-cement, electronics, and other media. I also make tile, glass light fixtures and vessels.
